It’s official! ¬†The Great Maine Outdoor Weekend will carry forward as a bi-annual event with newly confirmed dates for this coming Fall: September 28, 29, 30.

As with the weekend of events scheduled for March 2-4, the September weekend will be a series of events scheduled all across the great state of Maine to help connect our friends and neighbors with the natural world, and promote fun, physical activity, & good health.

Our weekend will include, most notably, National Public Lands Day- on September 29th.  National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Volunteers from across the United States and its territories come together to perform service projects on public lands, including tree plantings, invasive plant removal, historic site restoration and trash pick-ups. In 2011, over 180,000 volunteers lent a hand at 2,067 sites in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. (from http://www.publiclandsday.org/)

More information will be rolled out starting in April, but we couldn’t wait to share the great news.
