Animal Tracking Snowshoe, Jonesboro

Winter is a great time to look for animal tracks and scat, and that’s just what we’ll be doing. Join Downeast Coastal Conservancy Executive Director Rich Bard at Tide Mill Creek Preserve to search for signs of wildlife. This will be a fun hike for children and adults. No reservations are required, but this snowshoe is weather and condition dependent. The StoryWalkTM program combines the benefits of physical activity, time outdoors in nature, literacy and family time by taking children’s books and posting them, in pieces, along a recreational path or hiking trail. Discover this winter’s NEW feature: “Stickeen”, by John Muir, as retold by Donnell Rubay and illustrated by Christopher Canyon. To find the StoryWalkTM, start at the Mountain Road base parking area. Snowshoe Hike at The Basin Preserve, Phippsburg

Snowshoe Corea Heath Preserve, Prospect Harbor

Winter Interpretive Walk & Sledding Party; Hallowell

Fall in love with the outdoors on Valentine's Day this year! Join Maine Master Naturalist volunteers to explore the winter world in the Vaughan Woods at 9 am, then pack up your family and join us at the Homestead for a sledding party at 1pm. For the interpretive walk, park at by the barn and then meet at the grange/shop behind it. Be prepared to be outdoors for up to 2 hours. Snow shoes or ice cleats may be necessary depending on trail conditions. For the sledding party, park at the Homestead or the Litchfield Road trailhead and find us on the hill between the Homestead Gate and the trailhead. For both events, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Snowshoe on the Philbrick Trails in Skowhegan with Somerset Woods Trustees director Joe Dembeck. Celebrate St. Valentine’s Day with a mile-long heart-healthy walk on buffs overlooking the Kennebec and through quiet stands of hemlock with local biologist, Joe Dembeck. Philbrick Trail owed by Somerset Woods Trustees and maintained by the Skowhegan Recreation Center provides a peaceful refuge in the midst of a busy village center. In winter, local residents enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog walking on the crisscrossing loops among the hemlocks. Meet us at the parking lot at the end of Joyce St. near the Skowhegan Water Treatment plant at 10 am. Dress warmly.
